Article API RSS Feed

An RSS feed gives readers and compatible software a structured view of published articles. It should reflect the same titles, canonical links, and publication dates as the website rather than becoming a second, inconsistent content archive.

Start with the right boundary

Build the feed from the same approved content records as the pages. Keep item identity stable when an article is corrected, and choose deliberately whether readers receive an excerpt or full article content.

A practical workflow

01. Define the feed identity

Provide a channel title, site link, description, and language. Make the feed discoverable from the website header metadata and footer.

02. Create consistent items

Use a stable identifier, canonical article link, accurate title, and publication date where applicable. Escape content correctly for XML.

03. Validate the reader experience

Parse the XML, inspect article links and images, and test an actual feed reader. Check that an ordinary correction does not appear as a duplicate new article.

Before the next handoff

  • Stable item identifiers across revisions.
  • Publication dates agree with the visible pages.
  • HTML content uses absolute links in the feed.
KEEP THIS IN MIND

RSS is a syndication format, not proof of ownership and not an email-delivery service. Reuse and distribution still need appropriate editorial decisions.
